Solenne

A small workshop, and a short list of materials.

Since 2019, every Solenne has been made at the same address in Alderbrook. Here is how, and from what.

A bright workshop bench with a sewing machine, rolls of oat fabric, shears and a half-assembled mattress layer

Why we make so few.

Solenne began at one bench with one question: why do so many mattresses feel the same in the shop and so different after a month at home? The honest answer was that nobody gets to know a mattress in a shop.

So we made fewer, made them ourselves, and put the weight of the decision where it belongs, in your bedroom. Three models, two firmness options, a hundred nights.

The workshop has a dozen makers. None of them can tell you a mattress is perfect for you. All of them will tell you what is inside it.

Six steps, no hidden ones.

  1. 1

    Cut

Foam and latex arrive in large blocks and are cut to size on a flat-bed cutter. We keep the offcuts for pillow fill.

  2. 2

    Build

Layers are stacked by hand, in the order shown on each product page, and glued with a water-based adhesive.

  3. 3

    Quilt

The cover is quilted over a thin layer of wool or foam so it drapes and does not crinkle.

  4. 4

    Sew

Edges are piped and stitched twice. The person who sews it writes their name on the care tag.

  5. 5

    Test

Every mattress is pressed, measured and weighed against its specification before it is wrapped.

  6. 6

    Roll

The mattress is compressed, rolled and boxed in a clean room, then leaves for your door.

What goes inside.

  • Wool

Carded in small lots. It steadies temperature and takes moisture away from the skin.

  • Natural latex

Poured, cured and washed in batches, with pin-holes for air. Springy, long-lived and clean to the touch.

  • Steel pocket springs

Wound in-house from steel wire, wrapped one by one in fabric, with a firmer ring around the edge.

  • Open-cell foam

The softest touch and the quietest motion. Used for comfort layers and for Dusk, never as filler.

How we test

These are Solenne's own tests and targets, described as such. They are not third-party certifications and the numbers in this template are demo values.

Roller test
A weighted roller crosses each new design 30,000 times, then we measure how far the surface has settled. Our internal target is under 5 percent.
Edge test
We sit and rise from the edge hundreds of times to check that the perimeter does not collapse.
Home test
A new build is slept on by the team for 30 nights before it goes on sale.
