Converted malthouses and new homes on the water

Typical sale price
£395,000
Typical rent

The Quay neighbourhood, Aldermouth

Twenty years ago the Quay was a row of empty maltings and a scrapyard. Today it is the most sought-after address for people who want a modern flat with a view of the water.

The older conversions, like The Maltings, have the character; the newer terraces, like Kingfisher Row, have the energy ratings. Both sit on the same promenade, which runs to the footbridge and the station.

Check the lease length and service charge on any flat, and ask about flood resilience; the whole development was raised, but it is a question worth asking.
