Check-ups and fillings
A thorough, unhurried look at your teeth and gums, and gentle repairs when something needs fixing.
A good check-up is mostly a conversation, and then a careful look. We examine your teeth, gums and bite, check the soft tissues of your mouth, and explain everything in plain language, with the screen turned towards you.
If something needs repairing, we use tooth-coloured materials and local anaesthetic that has had time to work. You are always in charge of the pace: raise a hand and we stop.

Step by step
What happens at your visit
-
We talk first
Before anyone picks up an instrument, we ask what brought you in and what you would like from the visit.
-
A careful examination
Teeth, gums, bite and the soft tissues of your mouth. We show you what we see on a screen as we go.
-
Images, if you need them
Low-dose digital X-rays only when they will change a decision, never as a routine.
-
A plan you can read
You leave with a short written plan, in order of priority, with every price beside it.
Afterwards
Aftercare
- After a filling, avoid chewing on the treated side until the numbness has gone, usually two to three hours.
- Mild sensitivity to cold for a few days is common. If it is getting worse, tell us.
- Brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste and clean between your teeth once a day.
Questions
About check-ups and fillings
How often should I have a check-up?
Most adults do well with every six to twelve months. We will suggest an interval that suits your own mouth, and it can change over time.
Are X-rays really necessary?
Not at every visit. We take them when they help us see something we cannot see otherwise, and we always explain why.
Can I have a filling the same day I am examined?
Often yes, if the problem is small and we have a slot. We will always tell you the cost before we start.
