Emergency care
Same-day appointments for toothache, broken teeth, swelling and lost fillings, and a phone line when we are closed.
If something has gone wrong, you do not need to wait for a free week. We keep appointments open every day for people in pain, and our emergency line gives guidance when the practice is closed.
Brightwell is a fictional practice. This is demo content and not medical advice. In a real emergency, contact your local emergency services.
Step by step
What happens at your visit
-
Call us
During opening hours we keep slots free each day. Out of hours, call the emergency line and leave a message; it is checked regularly.
-
A quick, focused look
We find the cause of the pain or damage and, if needed, take an X-ray.
-
Relief first
Pain relief, a temporary repair or treatment of the cause, whichever is most appropriate.
-
A follow-up plan
If more treatment is needed, we book it before you leave and explain the cost.
Afterwards
Aftercare
- Take pain relief as directed on the packet and as advised by the dentist.
- Avoid very hot, cold or hard food on the affected side until you have been seen again.
- If swelling spreads, you have difficulty swallowing or breathing, or a fever, seek urgent medical care straight away.
Questions
About emergency care
What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe pain, facial swelling, a knocked-out adult tooth, a broken tooth or bleeding that will not stop. If in doubt, call and we will advise.
I knocked out a tooth. What should I do?
Hold it by the crown, never the root. Rinse gently without scrubbing and, if you can, place it back in the socket or keep it in milk. Call us straight away.
Do I need to be a registered patient?
No. We see anyone with a dental emergency, and you are welcome to stay with us afterwards.
