About Milepost
A bold, road-sign website for an independent car rental company, shown here as the fictional Milepost with four branches and nine vehicle classes. A four-step booking flow (branches, dates, times and driver age; a car chosen with filters; protection plans and extras with a live price summary; driver details and review) ends on a confirmation reference, with state kept in the URL so Back and reload work. Every price comes from one pricing engine: weekend, weekly and monthly rates, young driver fee, one-way and airport fees, deal codes and tax. A fleet page with filters and a page per class, branch pages with drawn maps and hours, protection, business rentals and deals. Light with asphalt sections, in Barlow Condensed and Barlow. Astro and Tailwind CSS 4.
Best for independent car and van rental companies, local hire franchises, airport rental desks and the agencies that build their sites.
Features
Four-step booking
Where and when (pick-up and return branch, dates, times, driver age), choose a car with filters, protection and extras, then driver details and review, ending on a confirmation reference. An accessible stepper, error summaries and announced steps.
Live price summary
Days, rates, fees, protection, extras, deal discount and tax update as each choice is made, with the deductible and card hold of the chosen plan.
One pricing engine
Weekend, weekly (7+ days) and monthly (28+ days) rates per class, a 24-hour rental day with a grace period, young driver fee with a cap, one-way fees by zone, an airport pick-up fee and tax, all in two config files and shared by every page.
State in the URL
Trip, car, cover, extras, promo code and step live in the query string and sessionStorage, so reload and the Back button work; driver details stay out of the URL. Search bars on the home, class and branch pages open the flow prefilled.
Fleet and branches
Nine vehicle classes with drawn SVG silhouettes (no car photos needed), rate cards and a filterable fleet; four branches with schematic maps, opening hours and pick-up instructions.
Deals and business
Six deal codes checked against booking and pick-up windows, minimum days and classes; a long-term business page with an enquiry form.
Connect your engine
With webhookUrl set the last step posts a documented JSON payload and confirms only after a 2xx; without JavaScript the page falls back to a simple quote request form.

Milepost FAQ
Does the booking flow take real reservations?
Not in the demo. Without a webhookUrl in src/config/site.ts the confirmation is labelled demo mode. Set it and the last step posts a JSON payload (trip, class, protection, extras, driver, quote) and confirms only after a 2xx response. Re-check availability and prices on your server: browser prices are a convenience.
Is vehicle availability checked?
No, every class can be booked; stockedAt only limits which branches carry a class. The README shows where to call your engine's availability before step 2 renders.
How do I change the prices?
Rates per class are in src/content/classes.json (daily, weekend, weekly, monthly), and the rules (tax, minimum age, young driver fee, one-way fees, weekly and monthly thresholds, cancellation window) in src/config/rules.ts. The booking, fleet pages, rate cards and examples all read them through the same pricing engine.
Do I need photos of every car?
No. Each class is drawn as a flat SVG side view (mini, compact, sedan, estate, SUV, family, electric, cargo, minibus) coloured with CSS. Seven generated photographs are used elsewhere, with prompts in src/assets/PROMPTS.md.
Does it work without JavaScript?
The booking page then shows a simple quote request form, sent with mailto: by default or to the form service you set as quoteFormAction. All other pages are static HTML.
Are the customer quotes real?
No. The three quotes on the home page are labelled as demo content written for the template; replace them with your own customers' words or remove the section.
Is there a dark mode?
No. Milepost has one designed mode, light with dark asphalt sections; colours are tokens on :root in src/styles/global.css.
When can I buy Milepost?
Milepost is coming soon: the live demo is online, and it goes on sale on Gumroad shortly at $29 USD, a one-time purchase with free updates.
Can I use Milepost for a client project?
Yes. The license covers personal and commercial projects, including client work. Reselling or redistributing the template itself is not allowed.
Milepost is coming soon. The whole demo is already online.
