Code of conduct
Signal is for people who want to learn and share. We expect everyone, attendees, speakers, sponsors and staff, to help keep it that way.
The short version
Be kind. Assume good faith. Do not make anyone feel unwelcome or unsafe. If someone asks you to stop, stop.
Expected behaviour
- Treat everyone with respect, in the rooms, the hallway, the yard and online.
- Listen before you answer. Let people finish. Share the floor.
- Ask before taking photos of people, and respect the dot on the badge.
- Keep talk content suitable for a general professional audience.
- Keep sponsor conversations opt-in: no badge scanning without a yes.
Unacceptable behaviour
- Harassment, intimidation or discrimination of any kind, including by gender, orientation, disability, appearance, age, ethnicity, religion or experience level.
- Unwelcome comments, sexual attention, stalking, following, or recording someone against their wishes.
- Sustained disruption of talks or other events.
- Threats of violence, or violence. Weapons are not allowed on the premises.
If something happens
Find any person wearing a lime lanyard, visit the help desk by the registration hall, or write to [email protected]. The line is staffed from doors-open to last session. You can report on behalf of someone else, and anonymously.
The response team will listen, keep your report confidential and decide on action with you. Possible actions include a warning, removal from the venue without refund, and a ban from future events. We will not ask you to confront anyone.
