Documentation Website Template for Developer Products
Developers judge a product by its documentation before they try it, and a docs site has needs a marketing site does not: a sidebar that grows with the content, search that is fast and scoped, code that can be copied and compared across languages, an API reference that never drifts from the spec, and old versions that stay readable without being mistaken for current ones.
Sextant covers that ground for a developer tool, an API or an open-source project: two versions side by side with an outdated banner on the legacy one, Pagefind search on Ctrl K, MDX components for callouts, steps, parameter tables and synced code tabs, an API reference generated from one JSON file with cURL, Node, Python and Go samples, a changelog and an llms.txt for AI assistants. It pairs naturally with Lumen or Tessera for the marketing side of the same product.

Questions
Is Sextant tied to a docs framework like Docusaurus or Starlight?
No. It is a plain Astro 7 project with MDX and Tailwind CSS 4: the sidebar, versioning, search dialog and API reference are its own small components, so everything can be changed in the source.
Can it document a REST API from an OpenAPI file?
Its API reference reads a simpler JSON description (src/data/api.json) of resources, endpoints, parameters and examples. Converting an OpenAPI file into that shape is a small script; the pages, samples and search entries then follow.
