Concepts

Jobs, handlers, the single default queue and the v1 job statuses.

Updated Overview Version v1.9

A job has a handler name, a payload and options (retries, delay). v1 has one implicit queue, default; named queues arrived in v2.

Statuses

Status Meaning
pending Waiting for a worker
delayed Waiting for its delay to pass
active Running
done Finished without error
failed Out of retries

Workers take jobs from Redis lists with a visibility timeout of 60 seconds. If a worker crashes, its job reappears after the timeout.
