Booking
How far ahead should I book?
Weddings usually book nine to fourteen months ahead and I take at most 22 a year. Portraits and brand days are often possible within a month. Send your date through the booking form and I will reply within two working days.
How do I confirm a date?
With a signed agreement and a deposit of 30 percent. The balance is due two weeks before a wedding and on the day for portraits and brand work.
What happens if we have to postpone?
You can move your date once at no cost, subject to availability. If I cannot make the new date, your deposit is refunded in full.
Do you shoot with a second photographer?
Only on the Full Story package, or on request for larger weddings. I prefer to work alone: it keeps the room quiet.
Shoot day
How do you like to work on the day?
Quietly and from a distance. I do not run a list of group photographs; I ask for two or three from the family and spend the rest of the day on the day itself.
What if it rains?
Rain is welcome. I work with umbrellas, awnings and wet streets, and some of my best pictures are from bad weather. We agree a plan B for weddings in advance.
Do you use film or digital?
Both. The film is a 35mm rangefinder and, for weddings and portraits, a medium-format camera. Your gallery will mix the two; the colour grade is consistent.
Do you direct poses?
I give you something to do rather than a pose to hold: walk this way, open that window, hold this. Most people are surprised by how little they need to think about the camera.
Pictures and prints
When will I receive my pictures?
A selection of previews within a week and the full gallery within the time listed on your package: three to six weeks for weddings, ten days for portraits, two weeks for brand work.
Can I print the pictures myself?
Yes. Personal printing rights are included. For prints of exhibition quality, the Prints page lists editions I print by hand on cotton paper.
How many pictures will I get?
A curated selection, not every frame. On the Day package that is about 250 pictures. I would rather give you a gallery you can look at in one sitting than a thousand pictures you never will.
Do you keep my pictures private?
Galleries are private and password protected. I ask before publishing anything on this site or on social media; for portraits, I never publish without a written yes.
Travel
Do you travel for weddings?
Yes. Travel within 60 miles of Alderport is included; beyond that, mileage is charged at $0.75 per mile and overnight stays are at cost. I travel anywhere for the right wedding.
Do you travel abroad?
Yes, for the Day and Full Story packages. Travel, accommodation and a day on each side are charged at cost.
